Bickering, sniping, criticizing each other…we’ve been working on changing our words around here. About building others up instead of insulting them. About saying we’re sorry when we’ve made a mistake or hurt someone’s feelings (and when I say “we,” I’m including myself…I can get pretty snippy and sarcastic and I don’t want that to be […]
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I got a new sewing machine. I currently both love and fear it and most of my effort so far has been in making sure I don’t sew my own fingers. So while I’m not doing anything too fancy, I did try this. The easiest, simplest doll dress pattern […]
About a year ago, we stopped using paper napkins. I’d like to tell you it’s because I’m selfless and environmentally minded and willing to endure every kind of hardship for the betterment of the planet and to leave my children a better world.
When I was little, my mom and a friend made an Easter tree one year. I’ve always wanted to make one, and I assumed it was — if not a common tradition — at least one people had generally heard of and knew about. But my husband insists that no — most people here in […]
How cute is this carrot? My friend Laura Kelly (of Laura Kelly Designs) is going through a carrot phase right now. Perhaps because they make such happy spring crafts? She gave out a few boxes full of fun crafty things, and her only request was that we make something carroty with them. Then, last night, […]
St. Patrick’s Day always sneaks up on me. We do a few fun things around here (corned beef and cabbage! Weird leprechaun pranks!), but it’s a pretty laid back holiday and not one we spend days preparing for or anything. So there have been times when, at 8pm March 16, I’ve realized that one of […]
Valentine’s Day is coming! I think I like it better now that I’m older. It’s so much more fun with kids. No worrying about the romance or dates or whether anyone’s bringing you flowers. Just fun celebrations of love in all its forms. Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that seems to lend itself […]
A few years ago, we made these Felt Christmas Tree Ornaments. They’re a great project for beginning sewers, they go quickly, and even people who manage to prick their fingers and try not to swear in front of their kids every time they sew can manage them. So can kids.
My stinky little brother’s getting married this weekend. To be fair, he is no longer stinky. Probably no one else ever thought he was stinky. I suppose if he were actually stinky, he wouldn’t be getting married this weekend but here we are (if we’re getting technical, he’s also not my little brother. He’s 6’4″.)
I’m addicted to granny squares. I’ve been trying to learn to crochet for years now, and I finally bit the bullet, watched a few youtube videos, and figured out a granny square pattern and then I. Couldn’t. Stop.
