Stovetop Spiced Apple Cider Recipe

October 9, 2016 By Laura 17 Comments

Oh, goodness, I do love apple cider. It’s just so…fallish. And winterish. And when you make it on the stove it makes your entire house smell HEAVENLY, it really does.

In a house where people still argue with me over showering and try to re-wear dirty clothes, good smells are not taken for granted.
So this apple cider recipe — make it up and drink it all at once, or you can store it in a pitcher (I’d leave the cinnamon sticks and oranges and cloves in it and let them soak in) and reheat when you want. Either way, it’s quite delicious. And just in time — it’s snowing in the mountains here and probably not long before the snow makes its way down here to my house. Time to batten down the hatches, stock up on cider ingredients, and pull out the fuzzy socks.

Stovetop Spiced Apple Cider

Stovetop Spiced Apple Cider

Ingredients

  • 2 liters apple juice
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1 Tb whole cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1 orange, sliced with peel on

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in stockpot.
  2. Stir over medium-low heat.
  3. If you’re in a rush, you can just heat through but if you have time, heat for 30 min to let the spices really get in there. You can also bind the spices up in a cheesecloth. I, however, have never in my life owned a piece of cheesecloth, so I just pour the cider through a tea strainer before serving.

After years of wondering if I really needed cheesecloth, and never having any for the rare occasion it could be helpful, I finally bought some Thanksgiving of this year. Every time I see it in the drawer, I feel accomplished LOL

I can smell it now! I love cider in the fall!

By the way, I was reading about you in your sidebar and noticed your kids are all 10 and under. My 5 kids are all 10 and under, too, though my son will turn 11 in December. Also, I’m a runner. Not a great or fast runner, but I love it anyway.

I’d love if you stopped by my blog. I’m doing a series on learning printables.
