How cute is this carrot? My friend Laura Kelly (of Laura Kelly Designs) is going through a carrot phase right now. Perhaps because they make such happy spring crafts? She gave out a few boxes full of fun crafty things, and her only request was that we make something carroty with them. Then, last night, I was at her house for dinner and ceramics painting (because also? She has a kiln in her house).
Sidenote: Much like a four-leaf clover, a four-Laura table is very good luck.
While I was there, she whipped up these carrot napkin rings in about 5 minutes.
An orange ribbon, folded over, with rickrack sewn across the front. A piece of orange felt, cut in a triangular carrot shape. Some green felt freehanded into a carrot top. A cute little Buttons Galore button, just for fun. If I’d done this on my own, it would have taken me more like 20 minutes to complete, because I’m afraid of my sewing machine. But still — a fun, fast project for a cute spring table setting.
You can embellish them, too, of course. Some dimensional fabric paint from Tulip.
Or you could write names on each carrot with fabric markers and use them as place settings on Easter.
Actually, this is a great project to assign kids while they’re waiting for Easter dinner. For big holiday meals, it’s nice to have a job for them to do while they’re waiting for their food. Have the carrots ready ahead of time and let the kids decorate and write names and get a little crafty.
