This is a fun, easy little project. Five minutes of time. An empty lip balm tube. Not much else to making a lip balm rocket. Boom.
Here’s all you need:
Begin by removing whatever is left in the tube of lip balm. Wipe it out using a paper towel as well. Then, remove the small plastic container inside:
turn it around and put it back in the container upside down.
Using the pliers, remove the twisty-thingy at the bottom:
it will look like this:
using the pointy stick, push the plastic part you put in backwards down to the bottom of the tube. Put the lid on the lip balm. Put the stick in the bottom of the tube.
hit the bottom quickly with the palm of your hand. The air pressure inside the tube will build up and cause the lid to fly off with a loud pop.
That’s it! Just one more word of caution — make sure to watch where kids are pointing their rockets and don’t let anyone shoot their eye out.
We’ve noticed that the rockets work great for a few minutes and then slowly stop working. They certainly don’t last forever. But they’re a fun use for some old lip balm tubes you were just going to throw away anyway.
