I just wanted to share a quick Girl Scout game. I actually love this one because
- it requires NO materials (no last minute trips to the store before meetings! And free! woo-hoo!)
- you can play it with any number of girls and any age range
- it’s great for early-on meetings where the girls don’t know each other very well, or for larger events where you have a bunch of girls who didn’t know each other beforehand
I had a lot of new girls in my troop this year…and it’s awful when the leader doesn’t know everyone’s name! This was a great way for me to get to know them all, and the girls love watching their leaders participate. This works as an introductory game, or a game to play at the end if you need to kill a little time before your meeting is over (it’s handy to have a few no-prep ideas like this in the back of your head in case you run out of stuff to do!)
The Girl Scout Name Game
Have the girls stand up and form a circle. Choose one girl to begin. Have her say her name and come up with a move — it could be a dance move, or a silly face, or a motion of a favorite sport — any kind of move to accompany her name. Then have the girl to her right say her name and come up with her own move. After that, start over — the whole circle says the first girl’s name and does her move, then the second girl’s name and move, then add the third girl. Continue around the circle, starting with the first girl each time and adding a new one as you go around. By the time you make it all the way around the circle, the girls (and leaders!) should know everyone’s name and will probably be laughing at some of the ridiculous things they had to do as well.
I know I’m not supposed to have favorites, but I do have a soft spot now for the 6-year old who made us all do The Robot.
