There are a few distinct smells that just shriek “fall.” Cinnamon is one. And I say gingerbread comes in a close second. Here’s our recipe for a gingerbread spice mix that smells quite fall-ish, if I do say so myself.
Gingerbread Spice Mix:
3 Tb ground ginger
3 Tb ground cinnamon
1 1/2 Tb nutmeg
1 1/2 Tb allspice
1 1/2 Tb ground cloves
Combine spices and store in an airtight container. Makes approximately 1/2 c.
Now, how to use it? In your coffee, like this. In your hot chocolate. Stirred into waffle, pancake or sugar cookie mixes. On your oatmeal. Anywhere you’d sprinkle a little cinnamon.
It would also make a great Christmas gift for a neighbor or friend, packaged in a cute jar with the recipe attached (yes, Mason Jar Fanatics — go nuts!)

How much would you put in hot cocoa?
I like about a teaspoon for a mug of cocoa. But maybe start with 1/2 tsp and add a little more until you like the taste…
