I’m making a conscious effort to look my kids in the eye when they speak to me.
This is harder than it sounds…they’re so short. It takes some doing to get down on their level and look them in the eye.
It usually means I have to stop what I’m working on and actually pay attention as well.
But I’ve already noticed a difference. Less shouting to get my attention. Less acting out. More confidence that I notice them and think what they’re saying is important.
It’s a small move, but a good one to help us connect.
This is part of a series on connecting simply with your kids (or others you love). Click here to read the rest of the series.
