I’m not sure if it’s obvious, but I’ve got a thing for fall and winter drinks. Cozy, hot drinks in mugs, meant to be sipped in fuzzy jammies and giant socks. Sparkly, elegant drinks for holiday parties and New Year’s toasts and Christmas dinners. Spiced drinks, winter fruity drinks, minty drinks — I love ’em all.
So I wanted to come up with a festive holiday drink recipe — a cranberry cocktail!
Sparkling wines are so fun…and festive…and fancy-looking. All those bubbles, served up in a delicate glass — they just make me feel rich and worldly. Like the sort of person who would be dancing in a ball gown on New Year’s Eve, rather than hanging out on the couch in my sweats, trying desperately to make it to midnight. Wherever this season takes you, I hope it’s full of love, and celebrating…in either fancy or casual mode.
I used Blanc de Noirs for this cranberry cocktail, but any sparkling white wine would be tasty.
One last word about the Cranberry Sparkler — make sure the wine is nice and chilled beforehand so you get a cool, crisp, bubbly drink.
Also, I now have half a bottle of sparkling wine that needs to be drunk before it stops sparkling. At 10am on a Thursday. I’m good, right?
- 1 bottle Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs or other sparkling wine
- 3 shots cranberry juice
- 1 shot Triple Sec
- Fill a martini shaker with ice.
- Pour cranberry juice and Triple Sec over the ice and shake vigorously.
- Fill a champagne glass 3/4 full of cranberry mixture.
- Top off with sparkling wine, pouring gently so the glass doesn't overflow.
