I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our military men and women. Yesterday was Veteran’s Day, and I was looking at all the pictures my friends and family were posting of their loved ones who so bravely served our country. Our own family has several veterans, including my grandfather.
And believe it or not, I’m finally at an age where I have friends with children in the military. Those mamas are so brave, and incredibly proud of their children — and they should be — but I know this time of year is hard. They want their families together for the holidays, and it just isn’t possible. And I know wives and husbands and children who have had to spend holidays apart from their loved ones who are serving. It’s not just the veterans who have sacrificed, their families do, too.
The USO Operation Celebration program provides a “home away from home” for deployed troops around the world to make sure every holiday is celebrated. They make sure our troops have a place to celebrate every holiday — with our without their families, and they bring the comforts of home that we take for granted. Special meals, entertainment, just a chance to relax for a bit — they work hard to make our troops feel loved.
Marie Callendar’s is partnering again this year with the USO — from now until January 29, purchase one of their specially marked meals, enter the code on the back online, and Marie Callendar’s will donate $.50 to the USO. You can find a full list of participating products here, or look for the “Support Our Troops” labels on packaging.
For every entry by 1/29/2016 of an 8-digit code found on participating products, Marie Callender’s will donate $.50 to the USO Operation Celebration program. Guaranteed minimum donation: $100,000. Maximum donation: $300,000. Limit 5 code entries per person/computer each day. Valid in U.S. Only.
And as a side note — we’re getting busier each week around here. We have holiday recitals and band concerts and choir performances, and it’s only going to get crazier between now and Christmas. I find it’s so helpful to have one or two family-sized freezer meals on-hand for those days when we’ve been running around and suddenly it’s 5:30p and I haven’t had time to make any dinner. So — you can have a convenient meal and help our troops all at the same time.
So stock up on a few Marie Callendar’s meals for busy days, enter the codes on the back, and know you’re helping some very special men and women to enjoy the comforts from home.
