My husband gets up for work at 2:30am. I get up at 5. And neither of us has super-powers (if I did, I think the ability to function on no sleep would actually be a really useful power. But flying would be more fun. Oh, this is hard).
So we’re both really addicted to appreciative of our morning coffee.
Sometimes, though, you just want something a little different. Not a whole fancy coffee drink. Just a little change from your regular morning java. And this simple hack will get you there.
A word of warning, though. I’m afraid this won’t work on those fancy Keurigs and other instant brewing machines…you’re gonna have to go old school for this one.
When you’re brewing your coffee, add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the grounds, and brew it as normal. That’s it. Cinnamon coffee that’s a nice little change from your normal cup, but nothing too fancy.
As far as measuring — put in a teaspoon in for every 6 cups you brew. So, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon for an entire pot. One for the six cups I might drink in a morning (hah! I kid. Maybe.) If you have them, add a cinnamon stick for stirring.
Spicing up your morning coffee. That’s my super-power.
I’ll keep working on this.

The owner of a lovely bed & breakfast that my husband and I visited a couple of years ago used this trick when brewing the breakfast coffee. It added a delightful accent to the coffee, but I had forgotten about about it – thanks for the reminder!
