My Christmas Resolutions

December 10, 2013 By Laura Leave a Comment

Christmas

We’re a week and a half into The Official Christmas Season…and I’ve seen all kinds of articles on how to keep down the busy. Good articles onsaying “no” to some good and worthy things so that you may do other good and worthy things better (here) and on not trying to make the perfect Pinterest Christmas (here). I’m not going to tell you that. I figure you already know it and other people have said it much better.

But even with cutting down on the busy, we have extra stuff going on this month. It’s okay. It’s a season. It’s  pretty fun and invigorating, really –except that I notice small things slipping through the cracks. So from now until Christmas, here are my resolutions…to make sure I don’t lose some important things amongst the fun things we’re doing:

baby Jesus, nativity,

1.) I will look people in the eye when we’re talking. Especially my kids. I’ve noticed this slipping, and it’s because they come in while I’m doing something else and I keep working while half-listening to them. I will stop and look at them when they speak. Even if it’s to say, “That’s a great idea and I’d love to hear more about it when you get home. But right now we’re ten minutes late for school and you have no pants on,” which might have happened yesterday. (If you do this, though, follow up after school like you promised.)

2.) I will keep morning devotions and prayer. I need this time each morning. It starts the day well. And yet it’s the first to go when I start doing other things. Why? That’s like stopping your vitamins when you feel a cold coming on.

3.) I will read to the kids every day. They love it. I love it. They learn stuff. They sit on my lap without running away. One of my favorite parts of the day.

4.) I will be polite. I will not go to the mall, or the post office, or the grocery store, or the airport, and expect to get out of there quickly. If I’m in a hurry, it’s my own fault and I will not blame the employees. I will say “please” and “thank you” and make a little small talk if I’m not intruding on anyone else’s time.

5.) I will go to bed on time. Because I’m so much better at the rest of this stuff if I’ve had my beauty sleep. And I’m not as productive after 10pm as I think I am.

And you? Do you have any resolutions for this season?

Thank you for visiting Peace but Not Quiet! I’d love it if you’d like me on facebook and follow me on twitter.

Hi, there!

Hi, there!

Welcome! I'm Laura -- a mom of four kids aged thirteen and under. I run occasionally and love really bad puns.
