Chores with MyJobChart

This post contains affiliate links. All opinions are, of course, my own. Because why would I waste my time trying to get you to buy something dumb? We’d both hate that.
MyJobChart.com

I have struggled for several years now with getting the kids to do chores. Do I make them? Do I pay them for it? Do they get an allowance as part of this family, unrelated to chores, but then have to do chores anyway? What’s the difference?

Then I finally settle on a plan, and within about two weeks, it all falls apart. I forget to have them do their chores. I make up charts and calendars with cute stickers and motivational sayings and I end up shrieking, “Dinner’s been ready for five minutes and NO ONE SET THE TABLE!!!” and threatening to cancel eating until people can get their act together.
So. MyJobChart.com is kind of a Godsend. It’s a free online service where you assign each of your kids jobs — there’s a great list of suggested ones and a spot to come up with your own. Then you assign each job a point value (which you can convert to money). You or the kids log on and track when they have finished their job, and their points are automatically added up.
I’m absolutely making this Job #1. I’ll pay them a million dollars…

Bam! No trying to remember exactly who I assigned what job…or how much I owe anyone…and since my kids love all things technology, they’re going to be really good at logging on and keeping track of their progress. There’s even a spot for “extra jobs,” which I’m thinking they may be motivated to do. The kids are learning how to work for their money and be responsible with it.

And — if we start now, they’ll be able to start saving up for Christmas presents. I love this idea.

Hi, there!

Hi, there!

Welcome! I'm Laura -- a mom of four kids aged thirteen and under. I run occasionally and love really bad puns.
