Valentine’s Day is coming! I think I like it better now that I’m older. It’s so much more fun with kids. No worrying about the romance or dates or whether anyone’s bringing you flowers. Just fun celebrations of love in all its forms. Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that seems to lend itself […]
New Year’s Eve always kind of sneaks up on me. It’s right after Christmas, and it feels like one of those holidays where everyone else is out wearing sparkly dresses and drinking champagne and going to balls (do people go to balls anymore? I feel like they do on New Year’s Eve. Without me.) […]
My stinky little brother’s getting married this weekend. To be fair, he is no longer stinky. Probably no one else ever thought he was stinky. I suppose if he were actually stinky, he wouldn’t be getting married this weekend but here we are (if we’re getting technical, he’s also not my little brother. He’s 6’4″.)
We finished reading On the Banks of Plum Creek earlier this fall. It’s one of my favorites in the “Little House” series, and certainly has my favorite Christmas stories of any of the books. There are three Christmas chapters — early on in the book, Mary and Laura agree to give up their Christmas presents so that […]
It’s tradition. Almost every year, on New Year’s Eve, we make this chocolate fondue recipe. And then the kids dig in and by the end, they’re covered in chocolate, the dining room is covered in chocolate, the dogs are covered in chocolate — fondue with children is not for the faint of heart. But it […]
I’m not gonna sing it. I promise. Not going to ask if you want to build a snowman. But if you did…well, these guys are pretty cute and tasty.
I don’t want to give you the wrong idea. I do NOT make presents for everyone on my Christmas list. Good heavens. It’s easy to see articles suggesting recipes and patterns and ideas for homemade Christmas gifts and to assume these people make all their presents. And maybe some of them do. Most of us make […]
Hi, there. Sorry. I don’t mean to be a downer or anything. It’s just that I’m sort of a Christmas junkie…and I’ve spent the last month surrounded by glossy decorating magazines, and pretty pretty Pinterest pictures, and commercials with starry-eyed, wonder-filled children and I needed a gentle reminder that that is not the Christmas of […]
I’m doing it again. Combining forces with some creative, fun bloggers to bring you ideas for celebrating the holidays with your children. Hundreds of ideas. For cooking, crafting, gift-making — all kinds of stuff.
No question about it — we’re a hot drink family. We started with our holiday drinks the minute it looked like fall around here, and since the weather’s been especially bad lately, both kids and grown-ups here have been warming ourselves with gallons of hot cocoa (for the kids) and coffee (for the adults).
