Bookshelf Makeover

February 15, 2013 By Laura 2 Comments

When we got married, my husband and I bought a bookshelf. One of those nice, big wall ones that’s taller than I am. We carefully stained it this reddish-maroonish color and filled it with books and stuff. And we haven’t changed it since. That was almost 14 years ago…so it was due for a little facelift.

Oh, yeah. Also, it had been a while since I cleared out the tchotchkes and pictures and books and things.

Since we made a little book nook for the kids a while back, I relocated a lot of this stuff there and claimed this bookshelf for grown-ups. I put a lot of the pictures in albums, kept only the knicknacks that had a real story for us, and painted.

I frigging love this paint color. I cannot tell you in words how much I love it. Or I could, but we’d both get a little uncomfortable when we remembered that I’m only talking about furniture. It’s Martha Stewart’s Arrowroot, purchased at Home Depot.

Purdy. Prettttttty. Ooooooh.

I also cleared up some space by putting my beach reads in baskets instead of lining them up on my shelves.

They’re not trashy trashy, you understand. They’re mostly charming mysteries involving little old ladies in the Cotswolds who solve murders while knitting beside the fire. People may be dead, but they’re amusingly dead, see?

OK, the big reveal:

Ahhhhh. So much better. Actually, that might be too much room…now we look illiterate. I may need to add back a few books.

Here it is again, just because I can’t get enough of this redo —

Hi, there!

Hi, there!

Welcome! I'm Laura -- a mom of four kids aged thirteen and under. I run occasionally and love really bad puns.
