So I try not to divulge too much personal info on here about people who are not me. But I can’t help it — I need to share one teensy, but totally bizarre, bewildering, Very Weird Quirk of my husband’s. He’s not a cake guy. I know. I just…I can’t even…I don’t know…hmph.
The kids and I spent several years trying to find a birthday cake he’d like. “Maybe just not chocolate? How about this orange chiffon sour cream cake? Carrot cake? Rainbow sprinkles? Everyone loves rainbow sprinkles!” And each time he was very polite, but you could tell it just wasn’t working. This year, we gave up. “We’re not making you a cake,” we announced. And he cheered.
So the kids made milkshakes instead.
1.) Let’s pretend the only reason my kitchen is that messy is because I let the kids in it. 2.) That’s a vintage blender, discovered at a thrift store. Works great, looks pretty cool, I think. 3.) Yes, that boy is about to start the vintage blender full of chocolate and ice cream with no lid on it. Help me.
The milkshakes were a huge hit and probably the start of a new tradition around here for the anti-birthday-cake-minded.
For this milkshake recipe, we used Cookies & Cream ice cream, though you could obviously switch out for anything you wish. I think the banana makes it a little thicker (and healthier, yes?), so just pick an ice cream that goes with bananas.
Ingredients
- 1 c Cookies & Cream ice cream
- 1/4 c milk
- 1/4 c chocolate sauce
- 1/2 banana
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to blender. Put the lid on the blender and blend. Scoop one spoonful of ice cream into the bottom of each cup, fill with milkshake mixture. Top with whipped cream and a cherry. Makes 2.
