Since I told you last week about 5 baby products you didn’t need, I figured this week I’d share the things I think are worth spending a little extra money on.
1.) Diapers — I’ve tried generic diapers. I had problems ranging from diapers that didn’t keep a baby dry through the night to diapers that emitted a weird chemical smell. You really do get what you pay for with diapers. Among the name-brands, they all seemed to work equally well for me — so look for sales, stock up on coupons, bite the bullet and pray you get an early potty-trainer…
2.) The Boppy — There’s a reason it’s the gold-standard of nursing pillows. It props the baby up high enough not to wreck your posture (really — it’s hard to regain good posture after months of slouching and feeding a baby). And it’s great for babies just learning to sit up.
3.) Bottles — When you find a bottle she likes, stick with it. Even if it’s one of those expensive Avent ones designed to mimic your…well, you get what I’m saying. Because there’s no worse feeling than coming home to a husband who’s been trying to feed a baby for an hour with a bottle she doesn’t like.
4.) Pacifiers — This isn’t so much a brand-thing as a quantity-thing. If you decide to go the pacifier route, buy lots. Lots and lots. Enough so that when one drops down the vent or in the toilet (it happens) at 2am, you don’t panic. I’d have at least four on-hand to start.
I need to pause here for a second and talk to my male family members — I just wanted to thank you guys for supporting me and reading this blog, even though I’m sure you don’t actually need to know how to make a fairy wreath. But you’re excused for the rest, ‘cuz I’m about to talk about lady parts.
5.) Sports Bras — Not, technically, a baby product. But a product necessary as a result of a baby. I’m not going to tell you your body will never be the same again. But it won’t happen overnight, and if you want to exercise in the meantime…well, we’ve gotta batten down the hatches. And the cheap sports bras just don’t cut it.
Thank you for reading! What baby items do you think are worth the splurge?
