I was just talking to my husband about how I planned to blog about a baby shower…at which we played no shower games, and I didn’t really decorate (I did bust out the wedding china, though — I need to do that more often. We really should eat dinner on our china once a week.)
Sometimes simple is best, though, you know? We’re all so busy, sometimes it’s nice to get together and slow down. And talk. And celebrate a tiny little baby about to be born.
OK, and eat. Because while the other stuff may have been minimal, there was some pretty good food, if I do say so myself.
Because this was a brunch, we kept to breakfast-y things…like this Creme Brulee French Toast, courtesy of my good friend Heidi (by the way, it calls for Grand Marnier, but we left it out and it was still great). And Eggs Benedict Casserole, made by shower guest Ashley (are you noticing a trend here? I volunteered to host the shower and we have yet to discover anything I did except clean my house and help with French Toast. And the house-cleaning was questionable.)
We had a berry salad as well (ah HAH! I did cut the strawberries, thankyouverymuch.)
We had coffee, lemonade and hot chocolate from a recipe I’ll share with you tomorrow (I swear to you, it tastes like it came from a chocolate cow. It’s heavenly.) Update: You can find the Hot Chocolate recipe here.
Then we did the aforementioned talking, eating, and opening of presents. And while everyone seemed to be mingling and having a lovely time, this guy was admittedly the most popular shower guest:
