Next month, I’m attempting The Great Toy Purge of 2012. Check in and see how I do — at the very least, you’ll feel better about the number of toys in your house when you see mine.
So I’ve been thinking generally about the kinds of things we’ll keep. They’ll have to be toys that either grow with the kids or wear well and hold the attention of each kid that comes along. Educational is a nice bonus. Here are a few baby toys that fit the requirements:
–Shape Sorters We had this elephant from Infantino — his middle turns to find the right shape and his trunk wiggles. But I don’t think you can go wrong in picking a shape sorter.
–Musical Instruments I know. Sorry. But kids really love them and they learn a lot by playing them. And it’s really funny to send them in with some maracas to wake up visiting guests.
–Wooden Puzzles They just seem to stay nicer much longer than the cardboard ones, and they’re easier for chubby little hands to manage.
