I’m wary of articles that say things like “10 Things You Should Be Doing With Your Baby!!” They stress me out.
But if you get a moment, and you don’t desperately need a nap, reading to your baby is a weird and wonderful thing.
Weird because, for the first few months, babies just sit there. They do not compliment your intonation or your British accent. They don’t even look at the pictures.
But in reading, they hear words and rhythms that don’t come up in general conversation. And they just like listening to you.
Our bedtime reading ritual began before any of the kids can remember, and it’s one of my favorite parts of the day.
But if you need to skip it sometimes, and take a nap, that’s okay, too. (For some ideas on what to read to your baby, click here.
