Overnight Road Tripping

June 28, 2012 By Laura 3 Comments

Our anniversary is July 3 (yes, it’s coming up! No plans yet. 13 years, thank you for asking. No, I don’t know how he’s put up with me this long, either.) Because it falls on one of the biggest travel weekends in the summer, I once spent my anniversary night here

getting kicked in the spleen by the two-year old sharing my bed.
Most of our road trips involve spending the night along the way, so along with yesterday’s tips here, I’ve got two more to make overnighting on the road a little easier.
1.) Pack an overnight bag. Have one small bag or backpack with a change of clothes, pjs and toiletries for everyone. This saves you the trouble of having to unload everyone’s bags, cart them to the room, and then repack them all in the morning.
2.) Consider continental breakfasts. Since we have our hotel room for the express purpose of sleeping before continuing our trip, we go for the cheapest motel we can find that is clean and not scary. But we’ve realized in the last few years that it’s often better to pay extra for a room that includes a continental breakfast. Breakfast for six people is pricey so if our room is $10 more, it’s the cheaper alternative. And there’s unlimited coffee, which we desperately need to continue on this crazy journey.

Hi, there!

Hi, there!

Welcome! I'm Laura -- a mom of four kids aged thirteen and under. I run occasionally and love really bad puns.
