I finally have light in my craft area! I have a tiny corner of the basement all to myself, where I squirrel away all manner of projects, fabric, and other shiny things. But I realized recently that I was having trouble seeing my work. Because of the lack of light, you understand. Not because I’m getting old or anything.
I found the lamp base and shade during separate thrifting trips…just sort of keeping my eye open but not really knowing what I wanted until I saw this beauty.
After several coats of white spray paint, I had this:
My plan was to dye the shade with RIT dye. I even bought some, brought it home and opened it up. But when I read the directions, which called for rubber gloves and a pot to dye in (presumably we’re not supposed to eat from it afterwards? Who has a pot they can’t use for eating?), I lost patience and squirted the dang thing with green spray paint instead. It came out pretty well…just use a light hand. You don’t want your fabric getting all soppy with paint or anything. I’d under-do it and then go back and do another light coat, rather than getting too much on all at once.
I found these little rose-doohickeys at Hobby Lobby. They come as a spool, like ribbon, so I cut them apart and glued them around the edges.
And — there was light!
