Oh, I do love knitting blankets for babies! They’re small enough that I can have the fun of experimenting with different patterns and stitches, without being locked into a project for six months (usually!). My only problem is that I’m running out of babies. Does this happen to you? When you need to be knitting […]

Summer puts me in the mood to knit sweaters. It’s too hot to knit giant afghans or blankets (although I am partial to baby blankets most of the time). And if I start now, I can usually get a new sweater ready for each of the kids by the time it’s cold enough to need them. […]
I love giving hand-knit blankets for baby presents. They’re special and unique (like babies!), but they can be pretty simple knitting projects and you don’t have to worry about them fitting or anything like that. In fact, if I don’t have the exact yarn or needles for a pattern, usually I just use what I […]
(I was not paid for this post, but I did receive a free kit to review. Read on for a chance to win up to $100 in product from We Are Knitters!) When my sister-in-law visited a few years ago, she pointed out that although I handknit afghans for each of my family members, on […]
I revamped my snowflake knitting pattern. I went back and knit it again, and changed a few measurements and stitch counts (just a little — the old one will still work, but I like this one better).
I finally did it. I conquered my fear of fair isle knitting and now I’m hooked. This seems to happen a lot with yarn work. When I mastered granny squares last year, I spent months crocheting the heck out of them. Granny square coasters. Granny square pillows. Granny square afghans.
I do love knitting baby blankets. They’re generally easy knitting patterns, but it’s fun to watch them develop as you knit up the blanket. And you don’t have to worry much about them fitting. I actually began this one without a baby to knit it for. Certainly, there are none around here, nor will there […]
Before we leave on a road trip, I always take the kids to pick out some special snacks and a new (or new-to-them-thrift-store) book. Then I take them to help me pick out yarn. Because long days on the road, and long, lazy days at the beach when we get there mean lots of knitting […]
Me: “Alexis, let’s take some pictures of the new winter sweater I just finished for you.” Alexis: (long, drawn out siiiiiiiigh that makes me dread the teenage years ahead) “Can I read while you do it?” So, without disturbing her reading, here it is. My favorite part is the gathers on the bodice and sleeves of […]
With recent knitting projects, I’ve been slowly working my way through the yarn I bought this summer at Jimmy Beans Wool. It felt like I had all the time in the world to knit up some hats and sweaters, and now suddenly it’s cold out and none of the kids have any winter-wear. Whoops. The Burton Bear […]
